Relevance
Evidence that has any tendency to make a material fact more or less probable than it would be without the evidence.
Relevance has two components: materiality (the fact is of consequence to the case) and probative value (the evidence makes the fact more or less likely). Even relevant evidence can be excluded under Rule 403 or by specific rules (subsequent remedial measures, settlement offers, liability insurance) that bar certain evidence for policy reasons.
