- Equity An ownership interest in a company — a residual claim on assets after all liabilities and senior claims are paid.
- Dividend A distribution of company earnings to shareholders, paid in cash, additional shares, or property.
- Preferred Stock Equity with a fixed dividend and seniority over common stock in dividends and liquidation — but typically no voting rights.
- Repurchase A company buying back its own outstanding shares, reducing share count and returning cash to remaining shareholders.
- Beta A measure of a stock's systematic risk — the sensitivity of its returns to broad market returns.
- Liquidity How easily and quickly a security can be converted to cash without significant price impact.
- Volatility A statistical measure of return dispersion, typically the standard deviation of returns over a period.
- Yield Annual income from a security expressed as a percentage of its price — for equities, the dividend yield.
- Float The number of shares actually available for public trading, excluding closely held positions.
- Ticker A short symbolic code that uniquely identifies a security on an exchange.
