Menopause
Cessation of menses for 12 consecutive months, typically around age 51.
Menopause is the cessation of menses for 12 consecutive months, occurring on average around age 51 as estrogen declines. Falling estrogen accelerates bone loss, so calcium, vitamin D, and weight-bearing exercise help reduce osteoporosis risk. Any postmenopausal bleeding is never normal and must be referred for evaluation to rule out malignancy.
