Oxygen

A therapeutic gas that supports combustion — a safety hazard in clinical settings.

Oxygen is a therapeutic gas that, while not flammable itself, vigorously supports combustion and is therefore a fire hazard in clinical settings. Allow no open flames, smoking, or electric razors near oxygen, and post “no smoking — oxygen in use” signs on the door and at the bedside. Even static electricity from synthetic fabrics can ignite an oxygen-enriched environment, so the area must be controlled.
