Palliation
Care focused on relieving symptoms and improving quality of life.
Palliation is care focused on relieving symptoms and improving quality of life rather than curing the underlying disease. It can begin at any stage of a serious illness alongside curative treatment, not only at the end of life, and differs in that respect from hospice. Aggressive symptom management — pain, dyspnea, nausea — and honest goals-of-care conversations are central to palliative nursing.
