Seizure
Abnormal electrical brain activity causing involuntary changes in movement or awareness.
A seizure is abnormal electrical brain activity causing involuntary changes in movement, sensation, or awareness. During a seizure the priority is safety: protect the head, turn the client to the side to maintain the airway and prevent aspiration, loosen restrictive clothing, and never insert anything into the mouth or restrain the limbs. Afterward, keep the client on their side during the postictal period, maintain the airway, and document the onset, duration, type of movement, and any precipitating factors.
