Precautions
Standard and transmission-based measures used to interrupt the chain of infection.
Precautions are the standard and transmission-based measures used to interrupt the chain of infection. Standard precautions apply to ALL clients regardless of diagnosis, treating every client’s blood, body fluids, secretions, and non-intact skin as potentially infectious, and include hand hygiene and personal protective equipment. Transmission-based precautions — contact, droplet, and airborne — are layered on top of standard precautions whenever a specific communicable infection is known or suspected.
