A host who lacks sufficient immunity or resistance to a specific pathogen and is therefore at risk of developing infection.

Susceptibility depends on age, immune status, vaccination history, nutritional state, and co-morbidities. Reducing susceptibility through immunization and optimizing nutrition is a key infection prevention strategy.
