Prevention

Actions that reduce disease risk or limit its progression.

Prevention spans three levels that the exam frequently asks you to distinguish. Primary prevention stops disease before it starts (immunizations, health teaching), secondary prevention detects it early while still treatable (screening such as mammograms and colonoscopy), and tertiary prevention limits disability and complications once disease exists (rehabilitation, managing a chronic condition). Matching the correct level to the client’s situation is the common test pattern.
