Isolation

Separating an infected client and using barriers to prevent transmission.

Isolation separates an infected client and uses barriers to prevent transmission to others. The type of isolation matches how the organism spreads — for example, airborne infections such as TB, measles, and varicella require a negative-pressure room and an N95 respirator. Transmission-based precautions are always layered on top of standard precautions, never used instead of them.
