Ambulation
Walking, often the first mobility goal after illness or surgery.
Early, progressive ambulation is one of the most effective ways to prevent the hazards of immobility — DVT, pneumonia, constipation, and pressure injuries. Before the first walk, sit the client on the edge of the bed and let the legs dangle to check for dizziness or a drop in blood pressure. Apply a gait belt, use any prescribed assistive device, and clear cords and clutter from the path before moving.
