Mobility

The ability to move freely; vital for preventing the complications of immobility.

Mobility — the ability to move freely — is essential because immobility quickly leads to deep vein thrombosis, pneumonia, pressure injuries, and muscle wasting. Reposition and mobilize clients on a regular schedule and promote early ambulation whenever it is safe. Use assistive devices and proper body mechanics to protect both the client and the nurse from injury.
