A low-dose X-ray imaging study of the breast used for early detection of breast cancer before symptoms develop.
Mammography is the gold-standard screening tool for breast cancer. It is most sensitive in fatty (not dense) breasts. Digital and 3D (tomosynthesis) mammography have improved early detection rates.
