Droplet

Precautions for infections spread by large respiratory droplets within ~6 feet.

Droplet precautions guard against infections spread by large respiratory droplets that travel only a short distance, roughly 3–6 feet, before falling. Wear a surgical mask when within that range; examples include influenza, pertussis, and bacterial meningitis. A private room or cohorting clients with the same infection reduces droplet exposure, and the client wears a mask when transported.
